Case file 187, 1977-present
April 25th, 1977
Watchdog 187, Samuel Brock
Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Alpha
I have just been assigned to a newborn Extraordinary. Born Henry Thomas, he was identified as an Extraordinary when his birth was announced in the local newspaper. Weighing 16 lbs, 1 oz and measuring 32 inches, Henry is almost twice the size of the average male newborn.
His mother, Virginia Thomas, died in childbirth, despite the fact that doctors delivered the child by cesarean section. Ultrasound pictures and medical records that have come into my possession show the child grew at an abnormal rate, and caused a difficult pregnancy for the mother. During the pregnancy, Virginia Thomas consumed an estimated two to three times as many calories as the average pregnant woman as well as excessive amounts of calcium and protein.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Beta
Henry continues to grow at an abnormal rate. At age ten, Henry stands 5’10” and weighs 200 lbs. His pediatrician remarks on his physical capabilities, however records stolen from his school contain several notes that his teachers are concerned with his social development.
Henry is the target for teasing by the other children. Additionally, his teachers note that his great size leads the other students to assume he has below average intelligence, an assumption that Henry is learning to make about himself.
Direct observation corroborates his teachers’ assessments. Henry is often the target of games and teasing on the playground. While school assignments taken from the trash show that his grades are average to above-average, he appears to have difficulty concentrating in class and answering questions.
He continues to receive encouragement and support from his father. Arnold Thomas seems to be the boy’s support and safety.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Gamma
Henry’s physical development continues at the accelerated rate. His last medical charts measured him at 7’8” and 340 lbs. Aside from his great physical size, his muscle-memory and physical coordination continue to develop as well. Henry seems at great pains to avoid accidental injury of people and destruction of objects.
Unable to participate in sports and alienated by his great size and strength (I have observed Henry in his garage at home bench-pressing over 600 lbs), Henry continues to have very difficult social development. I have taken two undelivered love-letters from his trash, and I personally observed Henry ask a girl to Homecoming. The girl looked frightened of Henry and refused.
Henry displays severe attitude problems at school. He talks back to his teachers and has been subject to severe and repeated disciplinary measures. Henry displays this aggression towards his schoolmates as well, however they have found that he cannot back up his threats. Laws against Extraordinaies are severe and teachers quickly assume that Henry is the aggressor in all situations. Thus, he is the target of hazing that he cannot respond to.
I would label Henry as a very lonely child, and this is very dangerous. He has no outlets for his strength and physical abilities, while he continues to suffer alienation at school. This ostracism may lead to a breakdown and violent outburst. I have classified Henry Thomas as threat level Gamma.
I would like to request additional firepower in the event that Henry goes bad. He has never suffered a broken bone or serious injury. His bone and muscle mass will make lethal wounds difficult to inflict. I will need shotgun slugs and 200 rounds of armor piercing 7.62mm ammunition. I do not believe that explosives are necessary at this point.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Gamma
Henry has found a measure of acceptance at school in his shop class. He shows an aptitude for mechanical things and it allows him to excel in something he is good at in a way he cannot physically, due to the bands on Extraordinaries participating in sports. It also does not require extensive social interaction, allowing him to escape the things that are painful to him.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Gamma
The Thomas’ moved this summer. I relocated to continue observation. Of note was a letter I found in the trash. Due to its nature, I suspect it was thrown out by accident. The contents of the letter are attached to this report.
“Dear Henry,
I hope that you never have to read this letter. You’re such a big boy and carrying you has been very hard for me. The doctors say that there’s a 50-50 chance that I might not survive the pregnancy.
I hope I do, I want to see you so badly! You’re going to be such a handsome man, I know it. But Henry, no matter what happens you have to know that it is not your fault. None of us are in control over how God made us. And if He takes me back, then know that I will be watching you from heaven.
They call people like you Extraordinary. You are extraordinary, Henry. You can do anything that you want to. And by that I mean anything. I say this because Extraordinaries are seen in a certain way. When we showed the family and friends the ultrasound pictures of you and they saw how big you were, we all suspected that you might be Extraordinary. They were already talking about what kind of hero you would be. But I think that’s a lot of pressure to put on someone just because of how they were born. I think it’s no better than saying someone has to work a certain job because of the color of their skin.
Find something that you love, Henry. Find a dream, and then chase it. You will always be my hero.
I love you, Henry,
Your Mother”

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Beta
Henry now has a girlfriend at school. The two share several classes and get along well. I have noticed a remarked improvement on Herny’s attitude and the level of disciplinary action taken by his teachers has been reduced by more than half.
I have reclassified Henry’s threat level to Beta.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Gamma
Henry’s girlfriend broke up with him. Letters taken from his trash and hers indicate that their relationship was moving towards physical consummation. According to a letter to her friend, Henry’s ex states that the size of his penis intimidated her and when she saw it, she knew they could never be able to have sex and that they could never be together.
Henry has reacted by withdrawing into himself. He continues to lift weights and run, but his school performance has declined and his disciplinary problems have returned in full. I have escalated Henry to Threat level Gamma again.
I believe that explosives may be necessary to deal with Henry, as I doubt the effectiveness of an armor piercing round in penetrating his skull. A shot to the eye or throat may inflict a fatal wound, but given the amount of destruction he can accomplish in a short amount of time, I would like to request a rocket launcher.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Gamma
Henry graduated high school with a 2.9 GPA. Upon graduating, Henry seemed listless and unfocused. I believe his motive for joining the military was simply that he did not know what else to do. I will be relocating with Henry to continue observation during boot camp.
As military involvement places severe limits on my abilities to directly observe and gather information, please activate the standard enhanced observation protocols. In the case of Henry Thomas, the additional expense in bribes and surveillance is justified.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Gamma
Boot camp has curbed some of Henry’s aggressiveness, though he continues to have disciplinary issues and problems with authority. The rigid military structure has given his life direction and he seems to have found camaraderie with his squad mates that he has lacked until this point.
I intercepted a letter home to his father in which he says that some squads with Exraordinaries resent them and the special treatment they tend to receive. He states his gratitude that his squad feels differently. He states that they think themselves lucky to have him on the squad, watching their backs.
Henry has been assigned as the squad mechanic, a position which he has taken to well. The aptitude shown in his high school shop class has provided a good foundation, and his instructors have left comments on his military record about his efficiency and knack for mechanical work.
Confidential comments that have been made available to the Watchguard contain arguments between placement officers. The debate centered on weather Henry should be transferred to the Engineering Corps due to his mechanical talent, or left in a combat unit due to his physical capabilities. The final decision was to leave Henry with his combat unit.
While it may have benefited Henry to have joined the Engineering Corps, I think that finally being able to exercise his physical strength will be of profound psychological influence as well. I will monitor as closely as I am able, for fear that combat training and violent activity may negatively influence his personality. For the time being, Henry remains Threat Level Gamma.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Gamma
Henry has been sent to Saudi Arabia to participate in Operation Desert Shield. I will continue to monitor Henry via military channels.
Military physical examinations have concluded that Henry has finished his growth. He stands 10’1” and weighs 980 lbs. His anatomy is that of a normal person, but his physiology differs greatly in the composition and density of his muscles and bones.

Henry Thomas was awarded a Purple Heart today. During action in a village called Tali he was shot while removing wounded squad mates from the field. He was shot twenty-seven times and rescued four injured soldiers. None of his injuries were considered severe.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Beta
Henry Thomas was discharged from military service after completing his tour of duty. He refused requests to sign up for further tours or to go career. Henry finished his military career with seven Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. His military service also counts towards his license to protect.
After returning stateside, Henry got a job as a mechanic, putting his natural inclinations and skills he honed in the military to use. He has found acceptance in his career and has calmed down considerably from the more taciturn youth he was before. The military training and combats he participated in do not seem to have engendered violent behavior. I am reclassifying Henry as Threat Level Beta.

Assignment: Henry Thomas
Threat Level: Beta
Henry Thomas left his job to open his own garage. He shows interest only in working in his shop and leading a normal life. Though his military service entitles Henry to a license to protect, he has never sought to use his powers for anything more than lifting cars.
If it were not for his immense size and strength, he would be classified as Threat Level Alpha.
